Kabul, Monday 4, April, 2017: H. E. Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz, minister of public health and Farida Mohmand, minister of higher education inaugurated Shahrara teaching and basic emergency obstetric care unit.
The Ministry of Public Health in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and with the financial support from the World Health Organization initiated the idea to repair the building of the hospital and establish the teaching and basic emergency obstetric care unit where Kabul university medicine students can do their practical work.
H. E. Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz, minister of public health said, “ The opening of the center is a positive step in reducing maternal and newborn mortality and added that the Ministry of Public Health is determined to reduce 30% maternal and newborn mortality until 2020.” H. E. minister said that it requires more coordination with the institutions responsible for raising the level of knowledge and skills of doctors, midwives and other health care professionals.
H. E. Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz said, “The ministry of higher education plays very important role in improving health service in the country and added though, the ministry of public health and ministry of higher education are different in terms of formation and administrative, but they have common purpose and quality of health services reflect the quality of teaching.” He added that as much as we improve the quality of teaching at the medicine universities, the better quality of health services are delivered. The ministry has a leading role in building a healthy society and establishing and supporting interpectoral coordination and collaboration and it can assist the ministry of public health in ensuring people’s health.
Dr. Farida Mohmand Higher Education Minister expressed satisfaction for the opening of the teaching center and stated that the ministry of higher education as a key responsible ministry to deliver quality higher education. She added that recognizing the responsibility, the ministry is trying to work alongside the health sector to provide practical work opportunities in other areas too.
Ministry of Public Health plans, in coordination with the Minister of Higher Education and Kabul Medical University to start training courses on emergency obstetric and newborn care for medicine students at the Shahrara medicine teaching hospital to learn scientific and practical care methods.
